Crossing Guard for Pre-Ride
7:30 AM - 9:15 AM
This very important volunteer position controls vehicular traffic and/or spectators at points where the course crosses a road or a pedestrian crossing during the pre-ride. You may have to hike or bike to these locations. Wear a helmet if you bike!
Stationary Course Marshal (short shift)
8:20 AM - 11:45 AM
Course Marshals are at stationary key points and are the eyes and ears out on the course that allow us to respond to injuries quickly. Marshals may also need to communicate about mechanicals, course cutting or racers abandoning the race to the Chief Course Marshal. They may also need to control traffic and/or spectators at intersections. They are always at positions on the course that are great places to cheer on the racers! Radios and a pack with supplies and safety equipment will be provided. Course marshals may hike or bike to the location. Always wear a helmet if biking! The start time allows for checking in, training and getting into position.
Finish line support - High school course
9:15 AM - 11:00 AM
The finish line is always the most hectic place on the race course. Parents and teammates crowd around to see the racers finish and some racers come through exhausted and may need to be corralled out of the way so we don’t get a bottleneck. In this role, you'll help manage the traffic flow of riders in the finish line chute to congratulate them and help keep the area safe by directing riders out of the finish line chute. Requires standing for the entire shift, also requires ability to cheer and communicate loudly and assertively with riders and bystanders.
Roving course marshal - High school course ***LEVEL 1, 2, or 3 COACHES ONLY***
11:05 AM - 2:30 PM
Roving Course Marshals ride the course to ensure everyone is safe and going the right way. They may also be sent to assist at certain locations. Radios are provided to communicate any problems or injuries with the Chief Course Marshal. These marshals need to be able to assist with basic first aid response, so you must be a current, Level 1, 2, or 3 NICA coach in the PitZone system to sign up for this role.

Staging - MS Girls (Wave 2) AND MS Boys (Waves 3-5)
1:50 PM - 4:30 PM
Staging volunteers assist the NorCal League staff with ensuring racers are in their correct staging location before the start of each race. This is a split shift. Each shift begins 30 minutes before the wave starts and ends once the final group starts.

GRiT Ride Leader (Female coaches only)
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
The GRiT pre-ride leader will lead a group of 20-30 girls through the race course and make frequent stops at features or difficult parts of the course to offer the girls the opportunity to session. During stops, ask the girls if they have any questions about the upcoming race or about how they are feeling about the race course. If you haven't ridden the course yet, it's ok! Blind riding is an important skills for the girls to learn too - think about talking them through the thought process for approaching a new course including getting off the bike to walk sections if needed, planning your race lines, and sessioning areas of the course.
